WHEN “YOU” ISN’T GREAT.
Posted on April 10, 2015 4 Comments
Funny how lately I’ve been on about people who are comfortable in their excesses. In the sense that some are aware of their bad personalities but are absolutely comfortable in saying “This is me, love me or hate me”.….. Well, when that could be applicable and justified in some cases, it’s often said by those with questionable attitudes.
This morning I saw this image below on Instagram and when this could also be the plain truth , I felt it would give individuals with unpleasant characters e.g (prideful, Overbearing, abruptly rude a.k.a Blunt) the justification to bask in their folly.
With the above image, what happens when ‘YOU’ is just not nice.
I feel it’s not just OK to only acknowledge our areas of growth, it’s necessary to identify, evaluate and make corrections. It’s like repentance. You don’t only confess your sins to God, you need to turn away from them to be truly repentant.
I shared this scripture with a friend this morning, “Do not give your pearls to pigs…” Matthew 7:6
However, the hard reality is that sometimes you are the pig that no one should give their pearls to. We all need growth but some virtues are foundational. e.g integrity, humility, selflessness and walking in love.
No body can fix you except yourself and Jesus, And the moment we acknowledge our dirt and filth, the faster we get washing.
Give yourself time to find your self and know where you need help. Don’t Exhaust people with your emotions or excesses. Learn to be whole, happy and content alone before expecting a commitment from another.
People can’t always accommodate that which you struggle with. Don’t expect everyone to always understand that you need to grow.
Instead, Make a conscious effort to Grow ……..
God help us all.

EASTER WEEKEND!
Posted on April 7, 2015 5 Comments
So as promised here’s a post on this long Easter weekend! It was quite an eventfuLL one. On Easter friday I was home all through, but then I received a delivery from Twelve 03 meals. A huge tray of small chops. The customer service was absolutely efficient. They called me every step of the way and delivered to my mum. It was so much I’m still eating it till today. Worth every Kobo.
Let me wet your appetites ^.^ sorry!
Fast forward to saturday, I had a wedding to attend and also my friend Obum’s birthday party. I attended the wedding with my family friend Esther, It was a very intimate yet fun wedding. I got teary eyed at the father-daughter dance :(…..
Remember the Yellow Daviva Ankara I bought a while ago? that’s what I sewed my dress with. I made a simple off shoulder dress with the fabric.
From there I went to Lekki for Obum’s birthday. I had a quick outfit change then went to the venue. Her birthday was at Lamba’s seaside bar. It was a nice party with barbecue to munch and drinks to gulp.

Obum’s party was fun and I got to meet new people!
On sunday I went to church, after which I wanted to go for SARO the musical, but something came up so I couldn’t attend. Instead I went for the Lagos grill and barbecue festival. I won a ticket from Chef fregz. It held at Muri Okunola park. Many people attended I saw a few known faces, such as Falz the badguy, BMpro, Toju Foyeh e.t.c. There were also lots of food vendors and I had some Mongolian rice and a smoothie. It got dark and started raining so I left around 6pm.
As I was leaving I saw the awesome SisiYemmie! it was so nice to see her, we would have to sit down properly to have lunch soon, we’d also remember to take pictures to prove or dispel our resemblance tales lol.
Yesterday was Easter monday, and I planned to go for a Pedicure but I caught a flu, been sneezing and all since yesterday, But hopefully nothing to worry about.
That’s how I spent my weekend! I had fun, lots to eat and met lots of people…….hope yours was as eventful too.
It’s Tuesday and we are back to work. Do have a fantastic week ahead.
xoxo

SIX BEAUTY FAVORITES FROM MARCH!
Posted on April 6, 2015 8 Comments
Hello,
Happy Easter! Hope you’re having fun and enjoying the long weekend. Today I’d be sharing six beauty products I enjoyed throughout last month! Most of which are new additions.
1. E.L.F MAKEUP MIST AND SET SPRAY : I bought this spray from my beauty joint haul last year, but I hardly ever use it as you see from the image below….. It’s a product I love but for some reason I abandoned it these past months, until recently. It acts as a setting spray after makeup application. I spray it at arm’s length, it first appears wet then dries up in about 30seconds. It keeps your makeup longer and leaves your skin dewy. I absolutely love it! Gets a 10/10 from me.

3. V05 TEXTURISING GUM: I posted this on my Instagram some weeks back. I bought it from Sainsburys in January. Used it once and hated it at first. Apparently I didn’t know how to apply it. It’s one of those things you buy, throwaway and go back to. I revisited it 3weeks back and it had my hair on check. It makes my curls pop, and is best applied with your finger tips then you brush with a soft boar bristled brush. Naturalistas should try this. It costs about £6. Absolutely worth every pence.

Got Questions, requests or suggestions? Kindly leave a comment below, I’d love to hear from you…
P.s. My wall paint is from DuluxNigeria in the colour Raspberry Bellini, it’s very bright and is a cross between orange and pink. The texture is Silk/Satin finish.

Hello,
Here’s an outfit post from today. I think I’m going to buy a small umbrella that I can put in my purse, the sun in Lagos is scorching, I’ve reduced my makeup drastically to avoid sweating, all I need now is a good sunscreen! please recommend a good one I can buy… thank you ^.^.
Also I’ve gone back to my bun. I would soon return to weave but I needed a breather……….Been a while I did a natural hair post/update, would do one soon..
This is one of my favorite dresses, I wear it every time there’s no time to scatter my closet for what to wear……
My weekend round-up is below the cut……
DRESS: RIVER ISLAND| BAG:ANNA SMITH | SHOES: BELLE WOMAN

How’s your day going? mine is a bit busy but good so far. Sorry I missed out on the weekend roundup, I had a chilled weekend. Church and mostly sleep……..Although I went to Yaba market with my friend and it wasn’t a pleasant experience. The rowdiness and the shop owners pulling us to check out their stalls was just not nice. Never again! lol
On sunday I went to church with Obum, had some froyo from sweet kiwi(It’s safe to say I’m a very loyal customer) then we went over to my friend Jennifer’s store. She’s a fashion designer, Obum and I wanted her to make some shift dresses for us. I would show you them when its made.
Those who follow me on Instagram may have seen my sunday posts, but here’s an update for those who don’t use Instagram…

FEATURED: ROYAL ROOTS TV + EXTRA!
Posted on March 18, 2015 9 Comments
Hello!
So I got invited to a Nigerian TV station, Royal Roots TV to discuss natural hair and blogging in general. I was very honored when I got the invitation, This is my second TV feature but my first live show. I was on the set with two lovely hosts, Derin and Fome.
During the show, I was asked questions about my blog, the health aspect of hair, healthy hair habits, product knowledge and natural oils. Also questions on protective styling and length retention were asked by callers. It was a very lovely experience with a nice yet professional production team. Surprisingly lots of men called into the show, with many loving the natural hair movements except one male caller, who specifically felt the idea was absurd, and that natural hair appeared untidy lol. We resolved to ‘one man’s gold is another’s junk”.
I loved being on set and would welcome more features gladly, thank God for growth and a wider reach. I’ve inserted a clip below from my Instagram feed, for you to watch (15secs)
After the show I went over to my friend Fedara’s house to sleep over as the studio was located on the mainland . The next day we went to have lunch at ‘The place’ in Lekki. I had some super nice Yam, Plantain and Asun(stir-fry goat meat) while Fedara had Plantain, Efo-riro with Asun. Everything we ordered costs N3,100, I personally don’t take juices or drinks with meals, I’d rather just have water with food, I’m trying to stay fit so anyone who has lunch with me will be convinced to have water too lol.
That’s the beautiful fedara below, shes also a naturalista!
So that’s how my yesterday and today went!
How you doing?? Sure all is well………
keep me in your prayers as I keep you in mine ^.^
Have a productive week ahead…..

ACADEMICS WITH WUNMI: 5 COMMON RESEARCH MISTAKES
Posted on March 18, 2015 Leave a Comment
Written by: Wunmi Kayode ACA
Hello Good People!
Let me start by appreciating you for being a committed audience to this blog also embracing the growth that comes with it, one of which is this platform of ‘Helping Others To Excel in Academics’. I appreciate all your constructive comments towards the “academics with wunmi segment” and all suggestions so far, however it would be more awesome if you also dropped a comment in the box below. Further more you can also suggest areas you would further like me to discuss in the research segment.
To the ‘topic’ of the day, in this post I will be considering the common research mistakes we make as researchers.
‘Sometimes by losing a battle you find a new way to win the war’- Donald Trump.
So stop hating on yourself for not getting it right in the past.
- DATA MANIPULATION: I was once a victim here, ‘adjusting’ your data and result to make it look like what you want or think it should be. It’s data remember not information, it’s still in its raw form, it’s to be used just the way it is and whatever result gotten after processing is the true representation of data. In research, there’s no right or wrong answer, the answer is not to be predetermined. The reason you’re ‘researching’ is because you don’t know the answer, if the answer is known beforehand then it’s not research. Don’t be ‘afraid’ to present your true result, just explain whatever result you’ve got critically and advisably support with existing literature.
- HIRING SOMEONE TO DO IT FOR YOU INSTEAD OF DIY: A lot of students are quite familiar with this. One of the major things you need to excel in research is to engage ‘smart-work’. ‘Smart work’ not only applies to research but all academic endeavours. This is what these ‘research helpers’ know. It’s not their field but yet they present you with a ‘good’ project at the end of the day. Note that not doing your academic research work yourself makes you incapable of defending the result thus not suitable for maximizing the benefits that is embedded in research.
- PLAGIARISM (PUBLISHED OR CO-STUDENTS WORKS): Plagiarism is copying someone’s work or idea without acknowledgement and presenting it as your work/idea. Plagiarism comes with negative consequences more often than not. The thought that some past researchers are better than us is not totally true. These past researchers have documented their ideas and opinions, dare to document your own ideas too. Until you make those ideas plain in writing, they may seem ‘lame’ in the head. To be honest we all have excellence in us, all we need do is to release it. Someone once said how to overcome fear is to do that thing you fear.
- LACK OF ORIGINALITY: It’s not that students don’t actually have the ideas, but quite a lot are not optimistic with their ideas nor are they willing to dare to be different. More often, in the process of trying to refine original ideas to soothe the trend or your supervisor, you lose the originality of the work as a whole. What most students don’t know is, supervisors actually want you to you sell your ideas to them, that is, make them see through your ‘lenses’. It’s no crime for your work to have its limitations, it’s part of the originality.
- POOR EXPRESSION: Grammatical blunders, inability to express oneself without ambiguity or bias to existing literature. Poor expression could also imply ‘moving in circles about your opinion’ rather than ‘hitting the nail on the head’. What this does is to erode the originality of your idea and aim of study. Don’t be apologetic about your opinion. I remember this was an area I had to consciously work on while writing my masters’ thesis. I was trying to hide ‘behind a finger’ in expressing my opinion. A colleague of mine went through my work and observed this, the review was indeed helpful.
SO HOW CAN THESE BE MINIMIZED?
- Engage research (academic endeavour) with the right mind-set, this eases out a lot of mental stress. Check the post for mind-set HERE.
- Learn to express yourself and opinion in your own words without ambiguity.
- Write down your ideas, writing makes things plain and easy to relate with. Thinking is good, writing your thoughts is better!
- Develop your own idea. Be Original with your thoughts.
- Acknowledge any other person’s idea used in your work.
- Give trusted and intelligent individuals your work to review.
- Be honest with your data results and presentation.
- Get more familiar with academic literatures, this helps in critical reasoning and gets you more acquainted with the style of academic writing.
- Check out references acknowledged in selected materials you’ve chosen to read, this gives better understanding of the subject matter.
- Be sure about the data you require for your study, getting your data right gives you confidence in your result.
Till I Come your way again,
Let’s stay Winning,
Wunmi Kayode
