WEEKEND GIST! + GET MY LOOK!
Posted on August 31, 2015 14 Comments
How are you! and how was your weekend, mine was fabulous! I rested well and got to hang out with a few friends from high school. On friday I went to work and went home straight to sleep. Afterwards, I replied mails as usual and had dinner. Fast forward to Saturday I ran a few errands for my mum and also dropped off a few deliveries. Saturday was super busy, but I wasn’t too sad because I knew Sunday was going to be fun.
On sunday I went to church for thanksgiving(Last sunday of the month) and was invited for a movie premiere at silverbird.
The movie was produced by my high school colleague Bimbo Peters, the movie cast includes Olu Jacobs, Joke Silva, and Funke akindele. It was a lovely movie and it would be showing in theaters nationwide from September 4, do make sure you watch.
For thanksgiving at church I wore a black dress and snake print court shoes.
The shoes were gifted to me for my birthday by my friend Ope, while the dress is from Pied A Terre, I got it on sale at House of Fraser. I’m the queen of bargain shopping so I was so delighted when I saw it went from £189 to less than £30! talk about cheap luxury.
I really loved the outfit in total, someone commented that it had the Jessica Pearson vibe from suits….
DRESS|| SHOES: Truffle
On sunday evening, I attended the premiere and the dresscode was ‘Glam’. I wore this shimmery gold dress with shoes from Bank. I bought the dress from a boutique in Ikota shopping complex Vgc Lagos, It was love at first sight! I paired it with dropping earrings and a black and gold clutch from Miss selfridges.
Earlier in the day, Just before I went to church I received a cake from Mimi’s pastierre which I would be reviewing soon! Actually Devouring it as I type ^.^
That’s basically how my weekend went. How was yours?
Heading home now from work!
Have a Fruitful week ahead

Happy Friday, how did your week go? Hope you’re as excited about the weekend as I am. I’m looking forward to sleep, blogging, fun and more sleep.
Fridays at work are casual/Trad days hence my outfit. I got this material from my friend Phoebe about 2 years ago. She gifted it to me just because ^.^, but I just recently sewed it into a shift-like dress. I asked my tailor to make a button-up casual dress and she did just that. The material was barely Three yards hence the length.
It’s been a struggle taking blog photos lately, but God knows my desires so he gave me a manager at work who doesn’t mind helping me with photos during lunch time.
I was so pleased when I saw the photos, for an amateur he did a good job! Help me thank Mr.Francis LOL
My shoes are from Dorothy Perkins. I’ve always wanted to wear yellow shoes without looking strange, and I’m glad it went quite well with the dress.
And oh yes I’m back to my bun! Thinking of a natural hair update soon…….
Do enjoy the post.
Got Questions, requests or suggestions? Kindly leave a comment below, I’d really love to hear from you…
Hope you’re doing great? Have a blessed weekend ahead!

FEATURED! ST.EVE MAGAZINE
Posted on August 13, 2015 8 Comments
Hello!
I was interviewed by ST.eve Magazine on their Fashion and Beauty talk, I enjoyed the interview and the correspondent was very pleasant. Read the article below or HERE
Tosin Alabi is one of a rare breed of people who can look stunning when simple. An accounting graduate and Masters degree holder in International Management, she is the initiator of Tosin Alabi Group, a business development firm providing support for start-ups and enterprises.
An ‘unashamed’ believer, Tosin blogs regularly on God, lifestyle and fashion on her popular platform,Africanism Cosmopolitan.
In this interview, Tosin Alabi talks about some of her takes on fashion and style.
St.Eve Magazine: What/Who inspired the creation of https://africanismcosmopolitan.com/ and what motivates you to keep going during the good and bad times?
Tosin Alabi: My blog was created firstly to answer questions I often got about my style and hair, I decided to create a platform where people could get stylish yet affordable fashion items. Over time I realized I had more to offer than fashion, so I rebranded it into a full lifestyle blog where education, faith, food and style topics are discussed.
What keeps me going is my commitment to success. I like to be efficient in my every endeavors, so even when I’m tired I know I have a responsibility to my readers which I must fulfill to maintain followership.
St.Eve Magazine: If you were to start all over again, what would you do differently?
Tosin Alabi: The first thing I’d do differently is to educate myself on the monetization of my social influence; I did a lot of free/underpaid work for brands when I didn’t realize my social capital. If I had known the potential of my blog I would have improved on a lot of things.
St.Eve Magazine: What beauty, grooming products, or spa treatments do you use before, during, or after attending a Fashion Show?
Tosin Alabi: I have attended a few fashion shows and I can’t necessarily say I have a strict Regimen prior to my attendance. But I usually like a nice manicure and well-groomed brows. I am also a huge perfume lover so I certainly dose myself with a good amount before any outing.
St.Eve Magazine: Do you think that the clothes we wear reflect what is inside us? If yes, what type of clothing do you wear when you are angry and you want to express yourself?
Tosin Alabi: I think most people just like to look good, and its not really that deep for me. However I do believe the clothes we wear can have an influence on our mood/aura. Mustard yellow is one of my favorite colours , so when I wear anything in that colour I find myself very cheery.
St.Eve Magazine: What is the most useful article of clothing in your wardrobe?
Tosin Alabi: Certainly my black dress/es. I have quite a few and I love how I can style them with accessories and get a new look every time.
St.Eve Magazine: If you had to start your wardrobe from scratch, what 5 things would you go and buy straight away?
Tosin Alabi: Easy! My yellow shift dress, My rosegold mules from Office, my black leather skirt from asos, My black blazer with shoulder embellishments and my White skinny jeans.
St.Eve Magazine: What would you wear to meet royalty or the President of Nigeria?
Tosin Alabi: A knee length ¾ sleeve pencil dress and court shoes.
St.Eve Magazine: Who is the best dressed person you know alive?
Tosin Alabi: Hahahah one person? No I have a lot. So I’d go with Stella of J’adore fashion and Soraya of Style is my thing.
St.Eve Magazine: Which Nigerian favourite designer has impressed you the most and why?
Tosin Alabi: I think I love Iconic Vanity besides the price tag. I Love their consistency and the skill and dedication in creating each outfit. Their hand beaded jackets are a must have.
St.Eve Magazine: Describe a perfect day.
Tosin Alabi: Good breakfast in bed, emails on business collaborations, Free and fast wifi, traffic free and home to great dinner made by my mum.
Connect with Tosin Alabi on Facebook and on Twitter.
Hope you enjoyed reading!

RUNNING A SIDE BUSINESS AND YOUR DAY JOB
Posted on August 11, 2015 19 Comments
Hello
I’ve always wanted to have a stable business alongside my professional career . It’s absolutely interesting to see how it’s easy to write down goals but yet struggle to achieve them.
My idea of a stable business is one with structure, well-kept records, an efficient business module, recurring clients/customers and sustainable profits.
Very few people are privileged or bold enough to plunge into the entrepreneurial sphere solely. Many would rather use the safe route of having a salary/paid Job then supplement it with a ‘side hustle’. But the truth is regardless of how risk free that may seem, it could be one of the most challenging options. I find myself in this category and I know it could be very tasking running a business with a day job (bearing in mind other factors like daily road traffic, Over time, social activities, family and rest, i.e. The bulk of the remaining hours in the week(minus 40hrs work time)).
I presently work at a firm where I resume 9am and close at 5:30pm, alongside my three other side businesses excluding my blog. These businesses I run are service and product based, meaning it involves logistics, customer service and procurement . Today on the blog I’d be sharing with you some tips I use in balancing my work-business life, and making sure I am efficient at both ends.
1. CREATE A REAL PLAN: Since we are trying to kill multiple birds with a stone, you’d need to know what you’re doing and how-to. The first step is having a concrete blue print, sounds cliché but it’s absolutely true. If you want your “side” business to become a real business, you need to treat it like one. Create a written plan for the day, week or even months. Look at your work pattern or schedule, and determine the days or hours when you’ll work on your business, and set deadlines for when you’ll accomplish the specific milestones. If you don’t prioritize your side business, it won’t yield desired outcomes. Furthermore, Depending on what type of side business and job you have, the time and energy required may be different. For businesses like mine I need to sacrifice my evenings (9pm-1am) to reply mails, create invoices and package goods for delivery over the weekend. In your case you might even need to use vacation days, or reserve specific evenings and weekends as your side-business’ working hours.
2. MAKE A CLEAR SEPARATION: It’s highly important that you have clear boundaries in both work zones, It’s very easy to want to work a little on your side business during your regular work day, but that’s not serving your existing company and may create an avoidable issue in your workplace. In my case what I do sometimes is to stay back at work after my work hours to respond to mails, this takes me 30minutes at most and I’m home with a small sense of fulfilment. It would benefit your business greatly if you dedicate an amount of time daily outside your job.
3.GET HELP: I know most times we get a bit protective with our businesses and would like to do all things by ourselves, but help doesn’t hurt. Infact let delegation be your best friend. Try to reduce your work load by deciding what someone else can do for you. E.g. instead of doing manual deliveries you can stock up on a market place that can handle all deliveries, e.g Konga/Jumia. Another form of getting help is to be aware of all the resources that can make your “side” business easier. E.g PC/Mobile applications, e.g. excel templates for invoices(reducing the hassle of designing one). You can also check out the app store’s Business category and look at what apps can make your life easier.
4. BE PASSIONATE: This should actually be the first point of this post, as it determines the strength of your dedication. You need to be intentional about the success of your career and your business. Most of us have dreams of quitting a day job to be your own boss, But this would not happen without building your side business to a sustainable point. Hence, you need to be focused and dedicated to your business right after your day job……..which leads me to my next point.
5.ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS: Try cutting out some Tv, web or unnecessary outings. I used to go out on weekends a lot, now I select my outings carefully. I go to places that can add value to me or my business and route my sojourns in the order of importance. Eliminating distractions could be calling back customers on my way to work instead of listening to music while driving. At the start of the day I always write out what needs to be achieved for the day. This gives me a sense of responsibility and a great reminder when I find my self Idle.
6.TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF: I used to be very guilty of this. It’s very tempting to work so hard, deprive yourself of sleep and be an overachiever when its your own business. But I’ve learnt that you’d only burn out and be less-effective at your day Job. Be sure to at least get some good sleep, eat well, lots of water and exercise consistently. Also one thing I do to keep me in tune is to create time and connect with people in my life. I make sure I call my close friends on weekends or chat with them, this gives me joy and just helps my emotional stability.
On a last note, Be organized, disciplined, commit to your plan, and hold yourself accountable.
I personally feel its wise to have multiple streams of income, especially in today’s economy. Given the number of people losing their jobs and higher demands, it’s just safer to have money coming in from other places besides a job. With these few tips I’ve shared above I hope it helps in managing your side business better. And whether you want to keep it simple as just a source of extra income, or develop it into a full-time business, the choice yours.
So tell me! Do you have a side business? If not, are you considering starting one? What are your thoughts?
Please feel free to drop a comment, share or ask questions.

FASHION FINDS : MULES
Posted on August 4, 2015 7 Comments
So if you follow my blog consistently you’d know mules are my thing. So what are they exactly?
Mule pronounced ‘Meule’, is originally a French word referring to a style of shoe which IS backless and can either be open/closed toe. Mules also vary in style and heel height.
I absolutely love the fact that they are like slippers yet stylish. I often say ‘wearing mules on any casual outfit takes you from 1 to 100 instantly’.
I have about four different pairs and I’d be sharing where to get them or similar stores. I’d start from the most recent purchase to the oldest.
1. OFFICE ROSE GOLD MULES: These are my new favorites, they are from offfice, however they are a tad bit similar to the giuseppe zanotti ones, just for less. I wore it to church for midweek service last week and it was an eye-turner. I got several compliments on my look even though I had no stitch of makeup. I simply wore a chiffon top and regular skinny jeans but the shoes added a fantastic pop to the outfit. I would certainly do a proper OOTD post wearing this soon. Here’s a photo how it looks on the feet below.
2.TOPSHOP WHITE STRAPPY MULES: I’ve been wearing this a lot lately, they are pure white and just what I needed to compliment my white sling purse. I also wore it with my shop shakara skirt. See HERE. They are fairly comfortable and the right height for any occasion.
3. FIRE TRAP COVER UP MULE: These are dear to my heart, I got them from USC and they’ve been my go-to casual black shoe. I love the stance it gives me when I wear them. They are sturdy and well balanced. All I do is shine them with a shoe buff and they are good to go. Get similar HERE
4. NEXT BLACK & GOLD MULES: I wore this so much when I first got them to the point that the sole started to chip, I’m yet to find a trusted cobbler to fix it. very stylish and absolutely comfortable. The gold detail allows you to do less with accessories. GET SIMILAR
And thats all!
Do let me know what you think about mules, are they for old ladies or you would totally rock them?
Kindly drop a comment below, I’d love to know.
xoxo
