AJALI STORE LAUNCH
Posted on November 1, 2015 7 Comments
Happy new month, hope your weekend was great and you are pumped for this later part of the year.
Yesterday was great, I attended the Ajali store launch in Lekki. It was a lovely event.
Ifeyinwa the owner of the brand is a someone who I’ve worked with before. She’s very pleasant and I was so happy to see her pursue her dreams .
The event started by 1pm, and I got there shortly after. I attended with my friend Tonie and we had lots of fun. I also met a couple of familiar faces, e.g Berry Dakara and Buchi Akpata.
The store is an outlet for handmade natural products and also a spa. We were treated to small chops, cupcakes , wine and fresh juices from simply green juices.
I got to network with new people and also take some photos.
Here they are below. Tonie also helped with some shots.
When I was ready to leave, I bought a Konjac sponge and there was a goodie bag for that purchase. The bag contained my sponge, a raw sugar body polish, and a TW woman magazine.
Ajali store: 11B Tokunbo Omisore street, Lekki Phase 1.
Hope your weekend was awesome.

#NOW PLAYING: JESUS JESU
Posted on October 23, 2015 2 Comments
How’s your day going?
Mine is going well….I’m just reminiscing on God’s faithfulness with this tune. I’ve had such an interesting month, I can’t wait to share all my testimonies in due time.
I’m a music lover, It’s just a shame I’m really not a great singer. You people won’t hear word if I could sing well.
I sing a lot, I love good songs and I think I’m one of the few people who actually buy CDs. There’s this lovely song I heard on a gospel collection I bought. it’s titled JESUS JESU by TY Bello. It’s that type of song you’d have to hear repeatedly to love, but once you do you’re hooked.
I found a YouTube version and I’d love to share it with you, you can also download it HERE
I hope you love it as much as I do!
Just passing by…….

ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER: OOTD
Posted on October 22, 2015 20 Comments
I’m just here waiting in my friend’s house because I refuse to face the traffic towards my home LOL……I really can’t wait for the weekend, I need to unwind. Today I’m wearing pants I bought earlier this year from DebraGrace boutique(Yaba, Lagos) .
This morning I was thinking of the perfect top to wear with it and I remembered this lace mini dress I have from Asos. So I opted for a monochrome look. I decided to fold the dress in as a top and it worked. I matched it with my gold strap Mules and a Brown bag.
I took the photos on my lunch break from work, met up with my friend Wura and she took the photos.
TOP: ASOS|| PANTS: DEBRA GRACE|| MULES: NEXT || BAG: GUCCI|| BRACELETS: H&M

Hope your day went well? Feel free to drop a comment/ask a question below, I’d love to hear from you

MY TOP 10 BEAUTY PRODUCTS UNDER N1,000
Posted on October 20, 2015 7 Comments
1. MAYBELLINE COLOSSAL MASCARA : I bought this mascara from my friend Dami, she’s a makeup artist and she recommended it. I first had a love-hate relationship with it but over time I’ve grown to love it! It literally takes my lashes from 0-100. I bought it for N800, but online it costs more so I didn’t bother to embed a link.
2. ELF EXPERT LIQUID EYELINER: ELF products are known to be functional and affordable. The brush of this eye liner is really felt and it applies smoothly, its also quite pigmented. I got it for N900 at B-DOW pharmacy in Lekki.
3. BEAUTY BLENDER : Beauty blenders are a huge fad now, almost every makeup enthusiast has one. I bought my first one from Beauty Joint, see my Video review of that haul HERE, I somehow lost that but recently bought a new one in Ikota shopping complex VGC, surprisingly I got it for N500 and it works perfectly. I found a similar version on Jumia for under N1000 too.
4. DAVIS EYE PENCIL: The almighty Davis Eye Pencil. It costs N100 and if you buy in large markets you can get it for as low as N50. I’ve tried Sleek eye pencils , Tara and the likes but I still find myself going back to this. I use the combination of colour 3 and 18, I’ve been using this brand since 2008 and it’s never failed me.
5: BEAUTY FORMULAS HENNA DEEP CONDITIONER: I bought this product at Game( the Palms lekki) for N980, I tried it and loved it. I even did a mini review on my Instagram and in this post HERE, It’s distributed by paxoonline in Nigeria. The deep conditioner leaves my hair soft and manageable. Love it!
6. PRETTY LIP BALM: I used this off my colleague and really liked the smell, the texture is like vaseline and gelly had a baby. Very nice and keeps your lips supple. I found it online for N620.
7. GLAMS NAIL POLISH: I got this at my aunts makeup studio, I was complaining of my nails chipping and she advised me to get this. It’s been working well and it dries really fast too.
8. L.A GIRL CONCEALER: This is sold for N700 at beauty stores, but I noticed it retails higher online, I wonder why. I’ve seen the three pack version sold for N1500, So I guess the price is fair. L.A girl concealers have knocked most brands off the shelf, its like every ones staple for contouring and highlighting. I recommend it. I bought mine also from my Beauty joint haul.
9. BEYOND BEAUTY LIQUID LIPSTICKS: We all know liquid lipsticks are in vogue. I’ve tried this brand in three shades; the deep Brown, Purple and Nude. I love the finish, the consistency and the fact that it lasts all day. It could be a bit messy if you don’t know how to apply it properly. I advise you have a concealer nearby in order to clean up the edges of your lips upon completion.
10. RDL BABY FACE CLEANSER: My friend Jennifer recommended this product to me, I was first like “uhh” what kind of name is “baby face”, but I trusted her review and bought it. It costs about N700-N900 at most stores, but you can also find it online. I’ve used it for about a month, and oh my! I’ve gone to restock. It keeps my skin soft and I think it clears spots too. My complexion has been more even and I think this products deserves its own full review. I did a further research online and I found out its sold worldwide especially in America for about $5. There’s a wealth of information about it, so I think you should check that out too if you’re interested.
So that’s all for now! Those are my top 10 beauty finds under N1000. So tell me, what are yours? Think and feel free to let me know below!
I’ve also embedded some purchase links in the product name, so feel free to click and buy online.

OOTD: ANKARA CHIC
Posted on October 18, 2015 22 Comments
Hope your weekend was great! Mine was BUSY. I really didn’t get any time to rest. I was just up and down lol. I missed so many engagements that I already planned to attend. But oh well…..
Today was church and it was awesome! The sermon was about giving and tithing, I would actually do a LOGOS on that soon.
I received an invite for a fashion show hosted by VEBA, I attended that this evening and met lots of old friends and acquaintances. It was a nice event but I would do a detailed post on that later this week.
For the show and church I wore this simple dress I made with an Ankara fabric I bought on my Estate street. If there’s something I’ve learnt about fashion is that pricy doesn’t always mean stylish. I bought this fabric for N3,500 that’s about £12 for 6 Yards, I gave it to my tailor to sew into this.
I got so many compliments at church and at the VEBA show. The pattern of the fabric is unique and my tailor did a good job with it. I paired it with my burgundy shoes from Topshop and A brown tote.
My hair is styled Back with a bobby pin and little accessories to spice up the look.
The photos also came out great, my lovely friend Wura took the photos.
Hope you are more well rested than I am….
I wish you an awesome week ahead.
XOXO

WHAT I DO TO NEGATIVE COMMENTS
Posted on October 9, 2015 7 Comments
Remember I said I would be sharing posts to help fellow bloggers, under my ‘Ask Tosin‘ segment, well this post is part of it. Read the previous topics HERE if you missed them!
Today’s topic is one bloggers rarely address, We all like to create the impression that everyone likes our blog and every thing we share is excellently written with no opposition feedback. But I tell you, as your blog becomes more popular you will receive more comments, meaning more people and more opinions. In other words, if you don’t receive at least one negative comment, that could mean your blog may only be read by friends and families, which is not good for growth.
Understand that comments are great! in fact all forms of feedback are awesome traffic building tools, so it’s worth encouraging them. Shares-reposts-retweets-referrals-likes and the rest, they are great.
In my four years of blogging I’ve learnt that the anonymity of the Internet gives people freedom to say what they feel either constructive or not . Especially as internet is void of social restrictions and direct consequences of communication in the real world. i.e People are safer/prefer talking negatively behind a computer.
Truthfully, I seldom receive negative comments, may be because I’m not as huge as Perez Hilton or LIB. However, when I do it could hurt. Especially if it’s a misinterpretation of my intention. Putting yourself out to there exposes you to a lot but most importantly teaches you to grow a thick skin, disregard ignorance and learn to respond intelligently when the need arises.
There are different types of negative commenters, I’ve decided to categorize them based on my experience.
- The Pure haters :The leave purely hateful comments, e.g “I hate christians”, or “your friend should lose weight, she’s really fat”.
- The spammers: They leave comments that have little or no relation to your blog post, I actually find this set of people hilarious. E.g. I publish a post on food, and I receive a comment like “I don’t care about this, I’m making average £2000 a month. There is tricky method I found on the web. If you want to learn it too, just type xxx betting system on google” Thankfully my blogging platform automatically sends this to my Spam folder.
- The unjustly Antagonistic: These are the ones that didn’t take out time to read the post , but proceed to drop comments that would have made absolute sense if the author didn’t already address their viewpoint. When I get comments like this, I sometimes approve and simply wait for other commenters to put the person on check. I try not to re-emphasize the point I already clarified in the post. On days I feel like indulging, I reply the comment with the excerpt of the blog countering the claim.
- Outrightly Negative but with a sound argument: This is common with faith-based posts and everything in between, mostly on my Instagram. When it comes to sensitive discuss, people always have a filled day expressing sentiment. The people in this category usually have valid arguments but defeat it with their approach. They get unecessarily rude and begin word-fights under my post, often with other commenters. In this case I delete their comment. No matter how apt your point is, the moment you get insultive or condescending to a fellow reader/commenter, I quickly send your comment to trash. I have zero tolerance for such behavior.
- Constructive: These are comments that make me see things differently and have a rethink about the entire post. The commenter does not agree with you but states their critique in the most constructive manner. For example. I did a food video on Efo-riro, and I was taught to blanche the vegetables with hot water first before cooking. I got a comment which said ” Lovely video, looks so yummy! but blanching the vegetables before cooking actually kills off all the nutrients, instead wash severally with cold water and add to pot to steam(when the other ingredients are almost done), the food remains fresh and preserves longer”. I thanked the commenter and changed my Blanching technique since that day.
Let me share another vivid experience: A while ago I did a video on the transition i.e Living in Lagos (WATCH HERE), it was a response video to emails I had gotten from Nigerians living abroad with the intention of moving back to Nigeria. I did my undergrad in Nigeria but moved to the UK mid 2013 and came back Finally in 2015 five months after the completion of my masters programme. In the video I shared tips like cargo companies to use for the move, internet service providers to patronise, finding a job, recruitment websites, and fun places to visit in Nigeria.
I later got a comment on the post which said “I love your blog and everything, but I don’t think you have a right to make a video on living abroad or settling in Lagos since you were only away for a short while”. Truthfully I was in awe LOL , I was like Ahh!, can this person read? The topics I shared in the video have nothing to with living abroad, it was even more about Life in Lagos and finding resources in Nigeria, where I was born and bred. Besides any one who has lived anywhere away from home for even just two months would know it could be tasking adjusting back. I also stated at the beginning of the video that it was particularly in response to emails I got by Nigerians weary of the move back to Lagos and this tweet below.
With such comments, you can take your time to further inform the commenter, but in the above scenario I chose to ignore and leave the comment pending. All the feedback on that video were great except that one comment. Readers expressed how informative it was, so the purpose had been fulfilled and I was pleased. One opposition comment is almost irrelevant.
In conclusion, As a blogger/PR executive you can decide to respond to non-constructive negative comments in four ways.
- Ignore (silence is golden).
- Respond privately: Most comments are linked to an email address, you can decide to send the commenter a private mail to respond to legitimate concerns. i.e if you feel the need to.
- Allow other commenters put the person straight.
- Delete comment.
At the end of the day you cannot afford to take every sentiment personal. If you know your blog is adding positive value to society, then negativity is nothing to worry about. Grow a thick skin, keep following your dreams and keep soaring.
Have something to say on this? kindly drop a comment, I’d love to hear from you……..
I love you and wish you the best in all your endeavour.
xx

YAY! THREE YEARS NATURAL!
Posted on October 8, 2015 9 Comments
Whoa! How time flies! I remember my two years anniversary I shared HERE It’s so surreal seeing how growth occurs. I shared a time line on my Instagram yesterday and here it is below! From 2012 when I did the big chop till now.

A living proof that hair grows with patience!! 🎉🎊🎉🎉🎉HAPPY 3 YEARS NATURAL TO ME! I went to the barber’s shop on October 6th 2012 to cut off all my hair. My parents hated it lol my brothers laughed at me. But I rocked every darn stage with confidence, even though deep down I was a bit uncertain if this choice was for me. I coloured it, Jerry-curled it and did the absolute most….Even with my then sparse edges 😀. But I Inspired my self with natural hair pages, stories and other people on the journey. Here we are 36months after! Better length, texture and of course better brows hehehe🙈. I’m happy and don’t regret the decision to go natural even though it’s a more expensive choice in all honesty. Cheers to another three years to come. 🎉🎊🎊🎉 P.s I’d be accepting freebies, goodie bags and endorsements to celebrate this small but worthy mile stone 🙊🙈💃🏿💃🏽 mail me at lynnjaphet@gmail.com I love you 💜#ItsJustHair#NaturalHairJourney @naijanaturals
But for the sake of those who don’t like scrolling through posts, I’ve decided to make this blog post interactive. If you have any question or comment about the natural hair journey please feel free to ask below, I’d be dedicating the rest of the day to answering questions. If you can’t seem to comment, tweet at me @LLynn_J or on instagram @Lynnjaphet I’d certainly respond.
I had the intention of typing a long post but I changed my mind. The ball is in your court! so Ask and I shall revert ASAP.
Hurray to me!
Cheers to the next phase of the journey!
