TWICE THE CHARM
Posted on November 18, 2015 18 Comments
Hello all,
So today I went to see my friend Toun and we decided to do this shoot, it was literally an unplanned-impromptu one. She was wearing black as well so I was like ‘hmmm, this would be nice on photo‘. I quickly asked her to grab her heels instead of flats. I always carry a pair of heels in my car so I grabbed mine too.
I called my friend Wura (she also took these photos HERE) to help with the photos and they came out great!
Toun’s inner model came out lol, she was rocking it!
Shoes (Tosin: Office| Toun: Lipsy)

Hope your day went well……..
Have a great week ahead.
do drop a comment as always, I’d like to hear from you.

MY FAVORITE M.A.C LIPSTICKS
Posted on November 7, 2015 13 Comments
From L-R Ruby Woo, Heroine, Flat out fabulous, Relentlessly Red.
I’m a Lipstick Lover and M.A.C is a brand that doesn’t fail me. The only thing I’m not too keen about is the price. They go for £15.50 each/N5,500 at their outlet in Nigeria.
I absolutely love their Matte and Retro-Matte collection. My Friend Tosin travelled so I asked her to buy me my three favourite shades (Ruby Woo, Heroine, Flat out fabulous) plus a new one(Relentlessly Red), which she did. My previous containers of lipsticks were screaming for help. I’ve used them to the barest minimum……..thanks to this mini haul they are free so yay!
The finish is matte and could be drying, but I always apply a balm before I use them.
It’s hard to choose a favourite from these four, but If I were to live with one forever it would be flat-out fabulous. Just stunning!
The best part is that these are perfect for women of colour. They all make my teeth appear way brighter, which is great ^.^
Do let me know which M.A.C lipsticks you love and the ones you’d like to try. I’d love to read your comments.

FOUR WAYS I EXFOLIATE
Posted on November 6, 2015 7 Comments
Skin care is something I’ve always loved but now I’m a full-blown enthusiast. Nowadays I find my self spending time on skin care pages and aisles on weekends. I feel the older one gets the more time we should spend on our health & body. Lines would begin to show and elasticity would reduce.
To stay looking ’20’ there’s the dermatologist advised regimen of Fruits, healthy meals, Lots of water, rest, moisturising, cleansing and SPF. Exfoliating comes under cleansing. It helps to unclog pores and prevent black head formation. Exfoliation is basically the removal of dead skin cells that are ready to be sloughed. On the long run it keeps the skin radiant and fresh.
I learnt how to exfoliate from my mum, growing up she always used tea tree scrubs and exfoliators from the body shop, so when puberty hit I joined in.
Today, it’s a staple in my beauty routines. I exfoliate about 3-4times a week depending on how my skin feels. But it’s important to note that there is such a thing as over exfoliation, This is when you pull away cells that are not ready to be shed, this can trigger irritation and inflammation, and even worsen acne/breakouts. So be sure to do it moderately.
I have used a variety of products but these are my top 4. They range from type to texture. From this you should be able to know more about non-invasive methods of exfoliating and hopefully find one that works for you.
Starting from Mild to strong.
1. Clarins Gentle brightening exfoliator: I just got this recently and I absolutely love and would recommend it. I have this aunt that her skin is like a baby’s and swears by Clarins products. I decided to give it a try and it was love at first trial. When they say gentle they mean ultra gentle. The beads are super micro and doesn’t feel like you’re scrubbing anything. It has a lotion-soap like consistency and is ideal for people with sensitive skin. When you’re done your skin feels softer and almost appears brighter. Been using it for a month plus, so far so good! It smells great and costs about $30.
2. Queen Helene Mint Julep facial scrub: I’ve been using queen Helene products since my uni days, precisely their Mint Julep mask. I recently got this Mint scrub and it gives the same gratifying effect as the Clarins exfoliator i.e. Softer and radiant skin. It’s deep cleansing and is great for unclogging pores. However this is for the people who would like to feel the rubbing effect of a scrub. The granules are medium-sized but you’d definitely feel it as you scrub along. It also has a cooling effect caused by the mint, which is nice with Cold water. I love this as it helps to reduce oil…… great for acne prone skin. I use this product on weekends.
3. Eden’s Apricot Face and body scrub: I’ve raved about this product on my twitter before. I love the size and the fact that a tub lasts me for a long time. I use this on my face and neck sometimes. on days when I feel I’ve had a sun beaten-oily face, I reach out for this. I scrub in circular motions for about 15-30seconds and rinse off with warm water. The results are instant, baby face suppleness. It doesn’t dry out my skin, instead It hydrates and moisturises. The beads are quite large and some may find it harsh, but my face and neck are used to it. It’s also very affordable, costs between N900-N1200 at most stores.
4. Champneys Facial cleansing system: I have talked about this before HERE, It’s battery operated so I use it on weekends. it’s a cheaper alternative to the Clarisonic. The brushes don’t spin but the handle vibrates, so you simply use in a circular motion. It comes with three different brushes( Soft, body, & exfoliating). I use the softer one more often because the exfoliating one is really hard. When I find white heads the exfoliating brush comes to my rescue. I use my regular face soap first then I go in with the brush. When I’m done, my skins feels really clean. Not necessarily softer but squeaky clean. You can find this at boots UK.
These are my top four exfoliating products presently, tell me which one you’ve used before or hoping to try. If you currently exfoliate do share your top products and tips below. I’d love to hear from you.

ACADEMICS WITH WUNMI: PRINCIPLE OF ASSOCIATION

IRON SHARPENETH IRON-“I.S.I”
Hello Beautiful People!
“You are the salt of the earth. But remember that salt is useful in association, but useless in isolation.”- Israelmore Ayivor
Been a minute on here! How are y’all doing? The last 3 months was all shades of beautiful against all odds and I am grateful. I don’t know if you are familiar with the ‘end of the year syndrome’, where everyone get to be more aggressive with goals set up at the beginning of the year, well I am having that already *covers face*. In the midst of this, God keeps reminding me of how he has answered some of my unremembered prayers (made for myself and others), how he has been busy attending to my very urgent needs that I have no idea of.
My point, stay grateful! refuse to be overwhelmed by the unaccomplished goals.
Every reader on this platform is celebrated; your comments are appreciated (tho’ I ask for more….lol). In view of the motive behind this platform- to help others excel in their academic endeavours, I hope that this segment of ‘Academics with Wunmi’ has been helpful.

LOGOS: ” I WANT TO BE CLOSER TO GOD”
Posted on November 3, 2015 5 Comments
Hello,
Welcome to another episode of Logos.
Logos corner is a segment of the blog where Faith is discussed. This segment has been running on the blog for over a year. I originally intended it to be a weekly post, but sometimes for deeper insight on a topic one may need to study for weeks and in some cases months…..Today’s topic is one I talk about often in my daily life so I thought to bring it to the blog.
I pray that this piece edifies the reader in Jesus name.
Because of my path and love for sharing the gospel I get lots of emails concerning this topic. Most times its main context is “I really want to be close to God, but I don’t know what to do”.
I’ve shared here before that I gave my life to Christ as an adult in 2009 but the genuine journey started late 2010. I used to deceive myself that a relationship with God would just appear because I had the zeal for God. Although that Zeal was the first step, I was living in a bubble. An effective relationship with God requires Grace, discipline, and being dead to self. You will need to drop YOU and take on the full cross of Jesus(Luke 9:23-24).
If you are reading this and you have a desire to build a close and sincere relationship with God, I thank God for you. Don’t take that thirst likely, there are people out there who live everyday without the burden for salvation. That desire you have is as a result of a calling, I pray that you receive grace to translate that zeal into a lifestyle.
But first, know that faith is everything. That is the core of Christianity. Wanting to heed, hear and speak to God comes solely by faith. Hebrews 11:16 says “and without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him”. Meaning if you don’t truly believe in God and his power you won’t have a desire or love for him.
Consequently Romans 10:17 says “So faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
So, It’s not enough to tell your spiritual mentors, your self and even God that you want to be close to him. God is ever ready and willing to walk with you, but you will need to get over wishing-wanting and make conscious radical life changes.
It’s as foundational as surrounding your self with Godly friends, spending time alone in prayer, meditating on the word over slothful sleeping, reading a book, watching a sermon instead of perusing social media , attending midweek service over hanging out with friends after work……
At the end of the day we are accountable for our actions. So it’s all in the deeds as we spend our time and resources on what is important to us. When you really have a thirst for God you come to him. Even those around you would see a change in you. You cannot just look like the world. The bible lets us know that we are lights, a city set upon a hill that CANNOT be hidden(Matthew 5:14), so if we claim to love God and look like every other unbeliever, we need to check ourselves.
I also acknowledge some concerns like, “I struggle to pray, read my bible, go to church e.t.c” My response to this is ‘check your heart’.
The truth is that our actions are a reflection of our heart. If your heart is full of God, your ways will certainly reflect it. But how can your heart be full of a God you don’t spend time with? its Impossible. God will forever seem like a ‘whimsical character’ to you if you don’t soak yourself in the true knowledge of him.
These conscious actions I speak about in the fore-paragraphs are not just going to happen because you ‘desire’ God. It would take absolute discipline. Spiritual growth is not a gift but a discipline.
No one tells you to brush your teeth in the morning before stepping out, it’s a must do. When you don’t you feel strange. In fact, you get up from your bed no matter how tired and brush your teeth. You may even skip perfume or makeup, but you know brushing is a necessity.
With this analogy, See prayer, attending church, worship, meditating on the word, quiet time, Godly companions as a necessity……..You may not feel like it but you just have to. It’s discipline coupled with grace.
I want us to renew our minds when it comes to faith and growth. It comes by hearing, doing and thinking. No one said it would be easy, but the moment you truly desire God you’d submit yourself to knowing more of him. You would find yourself genuinely loving his ways and not just the idea of knowing him.
Moreover, Our God is such an awesome God. If you struggle with habits or lifestyle changes, you don’t need to ‘try’ to stop doing them. Just fix your eyes and heart on Jesus(Hebrews 12:2a) and consume more of him, you’d see those things wither away. He has paid the price on the cross. Titus 2:14 says “He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.
So living a holy life is not impossible, Jesus has bought and redeemed us. He made us a holy nation and his special possession (1 peter 2:9).
I want to encourage you today to seek God genuinely. Long for him, do his will, meditate on his word and experience the freedom and abundant life that comes with salvation. I pray that today marks a turnaround in your walk with God, and everyone thirsting after him will find rest, peace and joy in him above all things.
I love this scripture Philippians 3:10-14. The Message version says

I pray these prayers for you
2 Peter 3:18
That we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity.
and Ephesians 3:17-19
That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
AMEN.
