Lately I’ve been pondering on what exactly causes Christians to fall into sin…….is it lack of faith or purely an act of disobedience? Are people who are consciously aware of the repercussions of their actions that negligent?

Christians, people who know the reality of heaven and hell…(or are we ignorant?), Or Is the world that tempting and provoking that the children of the most high God can’t stand firm to overcome the theatrics of Satan?…..these are the questions that have clouded my mind lately.

But today, it dawned on me why.
You see there’s a reason why satan doesn’t have two horns or breathes fire down our necks when we are being tempted. He knows what fear can do. The fear of eternal damnation and even the fear of God can invoke wisdom, causing you to rethink your actions. Which in most cases refutes sin (well except for those with a “dead conscience” as Bishop Oyedepo terms it. I.e Those who feel no conviction).

I realised this month that falsehood is the DNA of the devil, and lying is one sin that is specifically a genetic trait of his. Hence why the bible says, the devil is the father of all liars.
John 8:44b says “because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a falsehood, he speaks what is natural to him, for he is a liar [himself] and the father of lies and of all that is false”.

The enemy knows that if he came in a gory form you are most likely to bind and cast him out, many will be quick to say “satan get thee behind me!” But if he comes in form of ‘subtle’ things like covetousness, envy, white lies, lust, or debauchery….the probability that one would oblige is higher.

Tonight I learnt in bible study that when you hear of scriptures like 1 Peter 5:8 “Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour OR scriptures like Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers”………….It is not always about a Coven of witches or diabolic activities. More than often it’s that weakness we struggle with that is the “adversary“. That thing that you know makes you operate less than the frequency you ought to. That thing that fills you with regret upon completion. That thing you’ve begged God severally to “stop” you from doing….. brethren that is the adversary. That is satan in action, just hiding under that ‘activity’.

The devil uses tools like sleep, laziness, gluttony and talkativeness to weaken Christians, making them insensitive to the things of the spirit. That’s why the bible says in Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” .
We need to always be alert and sensitive so the enemy doesn’t fool us when he comes as a wolf in sheep’s clothing…..God forbid we fall.

Tonight I discovered that deception is the greatest tool of the enemy, that’s a strength of his, but discernment is a strength of ours. Hence, we can always overcome . Discernment allows you to test spirits; you leave discussions when they are beginning to go vile, you cut off men/women who encourage you to lust, you visit the right places and remove yourself from ungodly gatherings….because what may seem like pure bants or fun may create an atmosphere for sin and even access for foul spirits . Discernment allows you see what the physical doesn’t present.

Philippians 1:9-10 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.

I pray that God almighty gives us the power to do his will, the grace to discern and operate in the full gifts of the holyspirit within us.
“Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil” Ephesians 6:11

Have a great night rest.

  1. Truthfully speaking, at a point in my life I realised I was aware of the wrong I was doing but why I continued, I don’t know. Could it be cos I know God is merciful and heard my cry for forgiveness? This method now became a habit and I was sick of it. I thought to myself, how wud it be if someone kept hurting me and came apologising every single time cos u know u’re loved no matter what. That’s when I stopped. NO MORE GOD TESTING. I began to take steps, fleeing from every chance evil tried to snatch up, its not easy, not been easy,I still struggle but I made a conscious effort to not return to my former ways. By faith I have been transformed but still I back it up with prayer, cos this flesh eh… In summary, There’s nothing you can’t do, you must just be focused and prayerful, and God will take control. Thanks for sharing this and being REAL!

  2. Really, often times i try to figure out why I still stumble on this particular sin…thanks for this piece! More strength and inspiration in Jesus name
