5 REASONS YOUR HAIR MAY NOT BE ‘GROWING’!

These are just a few reasons I feel may contribute to hair loss/slow hair growth, besides the usual over manipulation causing breakage.

1. You don’t follow Instructions: I know this may sound very cliché, but it’s true. Many naturals are very assumptuous when using new/old products. Ask yourself-when last you properly used products as instructed by the manufacturers. Sometimes, products that are meant to aid your hair growth process have to be used in a particular order to obtain optimum results. You may need to leave some on for 30minutes plus, while some for 2 minutes only to prevent breakage.

2. You

hang on to split ends because of ‘length’:  The tip/end of the hair is the oldest hair, meaning it’s the part that has been through the most manipulation. Split ends (Trichoptilosis) is the longitudinal splitting of the hair fiber, often caused by dryness, illness or damage on the hair. Although all hair gets damaged after a while, It’s advisable to get a trim of at least 14 to 1 inch (0.6 to 2.5 cm) with proper hair shears. Keeping split ends would only cause the hair strands to split further up…so instead of retaining length, it’s counter productive as split ends are more prone to breakage.

3. Your Diet & Lifestyle : We are what we eat and do. Healthy hair grows when your insides are well fed. Nutrients are essential for the overall well-being from skin to nails and hair. Not just eating well but living well. Exercise, proteins, vegetables, and reduced smoking or alcohol intake could improve hair growth. Also one can implement dietary supplements rich in Biotin, vitamin A and Niacin in diet.

4. Hormones and stress: sometimes stress, child-birth or menopause can trigger hair loss/stunting. Falling estrogen levels may cause this type of hair loss. With hormonal treatments or more relaxation hair should grow back.

5. You’ve reached your terminal length: Terminal length is simply the longest length that any hair on your head can grow given your monthly growing rate and the length of your growing periods. The is the maximum length that your hair can reach if it were never cut, broken, damaged and was just allowed to grow freely without interruption. Once the hair has completed its total growing period and has reached its terminal length, it will shed naturally and be pushed out by (or eventually be replaced by) a new, growing strand. This process repeats all over your head, day in and day out, for your entire lifetime for each single strand of hair. These lengths vary, some shoulder length, some mid back, others waist length. Find out your family history as to how long the women grow their manes..Genetics play a huge role in colour, density and length of hair.

  3. Hello tosin, gone through your IG page and now on your blog, i must say i am officially full of envy😉(in a good way though)😀. I just started transitioning and clueless. Relaxed my hair last in january. I have seen that i need a routine and good products, but i just need soneone to walk me through what to use and especially how to use.i just removed braids and sectioned my hair into 4, wove them and wore a wig cap, cos i was clueless. Will really appreciate some good advise. I attended covenant too, so pls help a fellow eagle😁😉(just had to play d CU card)
